How to celebrate Songkran in Thailand

This year will be special for the Songkran World Festival, which will be celebrated throughout the kingdom, covering 76 provinces of Thailand. UNESCO presented the Ministry of Culture with a certificate recognizing the significance of the holiday for all mankind.

Songkran is not only a celebration of the beginning of the Thai New Year, but also a demonstration of local customs and traditions. Deeply rooted in Thai culture and religion, this festival symbolizes cleansing from misfortune and welcoming new perspectives.

Traditionally, the Songkran Festival is celebrated from April 13th to 15th every year. His custom is water battles, where the streets turn into a real battlefield, and water becomes a symbol of purification and a new beginning. Locals and tourists are happy to participate in this vibrant event, bringing water guns and buckets with them to fully enjoy the festive atmosphere.

The provinces were called upon to choose the dates of the celebration so that when Songkran ended in one place, it began in another. This will allow tourists to enjoy the holiday during the first three weeks of April, even if they cannot arrive on official dates.
